Tell me again why I chose teaching?

When I woke up this morning, my left eye was itchy and red. Things were a bit blurry. At nearly 1:00 in the morning, my left eye is still itchy, still red, and still a bit blurry. Although I've never had it before, I'm pretty sure I have pink eye. After I finish making this post, I think I'm going to look it up online.

It isn't killing me, but it also isn't comfy. Part of me wants it gone now, but part of me wants it to stick around until Monday and see if it is cause to be sent home from work. If it is still around, I think I'll say something to someone and see. By working at a daycare, I'm pretty sure they have guidelines as to working while harboring a contagious anything and although I don 't know much of anything about pink eye, I know that it is contagious which would be problematic if I do, in fact, have it.

I will find out a lot about the people I work for and their intentions if I do still have this issue on Monday. If they send me home, I will know that at least on this issue, they do care about the well-being of everyone. If they shrug it off, I will have a suspicion otherwise. They are asking me to work late due to a short staff on Monday to begin with (luckily, they don't want me in until 9 that day) so having yet another staff member out would be tough. I know that I won't call in because I've done that recently so it will all truly be their call.

I don't plan on making a doctor's visit; I don't have insurance until January and I don't feel like the out-of-pocket expense of having some guy probe around my eye. I'm terrified of doctors and eye-probing anyhow so I'm hoping it goes away on its own. If I look it up, however, and find that my eye will fall out or the equivalent I'll suck it up. I enjoy my vision too much to risk losing any sight, I've always said if I had to choose, I'd rather be Deaf than blind.

Regardless of any of this, the fact of the matter is that there is a good chance that I have pink eye. If my hunch is in fact correct, it means that I likely got it from one of my little darlings at school. All I've got to say about that is "grrrrrrrr".

EDIT: I don't think a doctor is needed. According to the internet (which of course is always right), it usually will get better within "a few" days. There's definitely no need to pay 50 bucks for a doctor to tell me that when google does it for free. Also, if I'm very careful about NOT touching my eye and frequent hand washings, I should be able to prevent spreading it, although it is spread through touch. I'm not sure what the official policy for that is at work, but I'm about to find out on Monday unless it does get better by then which is a possibility depending on when I actually acquired this pink eye and what the website's definition of "a few days" means. Either way, I doubt my eye will fall out.

I am pretty sure pink eye is REALLY contageous so if it really is pink eye they better send you home or else there is a chance the other kids might pick it up. I am pretty sure it spreads from you touching it and then touching other people/things...

Definitely should not be at school with contagious pink eye. You might even do the dr.'s visit because every time I"VE had pink eye i've needed drops for my eyes. Also, it says 7-10 days to recover with nothing - that will go into x-mas!!

good luck.

a) Pink eye is definitely something they'll send you home for. You can wash your hands a thousand times and never touch your eye and still spread it. I contracted it once in high school by sitting by someone who had it (I didn't know they had it). We never touched at all.

b) It'll go away "in a few days" with MEDICATION. Sorry hun, it's not going to just go away on it's own. You'll need medicated eye drops that you need a prescrip for.

I had a nasty case of pink eye when i was younger, and the doctor told me to flush it out with "Colirium"...I think that was what its called. You should definitely go to CVS and talk to the pharmacist..there might be over the counter drugs you can take.

I'm glad it will go away soon. I was going to say, maybe you have allergic conjunctivitis if you have yellow crap coming out of your eye. I usually just get eyedrops for it because I can't stand waking up and not being able to open my eyes until I manage to stumble to the bathroom and put a hot washcloth on them.

The actual term is conjuctivitis, and it's very contagious at first. I wouldn't have gone to work if I could avoid it at all, but it looks like you don't have that option :-/
